Federal Trade Commission Announces Rule Changes

The Federal Trade Commission ("FTC") announced amendments to its so called  Franchise Rule, 16 C.F. R. Part 436, with a phase-in period of one year beginning on July 1, 2007. The amendments have significance to both franchisors and prospective franchisees. The Federal Register Notice of the updated rule can be found at http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2007/01/franchiserule.htm

The FTC is also preparing proposed rules to govern the sales of "business opportunities", which will no longer governed by the amended Franchise Rule once its one year phase-in period expires.
